Reflection
Purpose of thinking
The dish had to be healthy ,yet something that my younger sister would enjoy eating as well as she is quite a fussy eater. The dish also had to meet our nutritional needs.
Question at Issue
I need to prepare a healthy, nutritious meal for both my sister and I that we would both enjoy.
Assumptions
My sister is 10 years of age, and she enjoys eating pasta
Concepts
I made use of the food pyramid to help me in making my decisions
Information
I researched online for healthy meals that would have good nutritional value, and I found the mushroom spaghetti to be healthy and something both my sister and I would enjoy eating.
Points of view
At the start of preparing the dish when I was chopping everything up, I focused a lot on trying to make it as neat as possible, and thus I spent a little too much time on that alone. However, I was able to make up for the time overspent and I managed to complete my dish in time.
A few of my friends who tasted the dish told me it tasted good, and I felt rather satisfied with the compliments. However, I felt that it didn't seem quite as professional looking as I had hoped, and I was slightly disappointed with that.
Through the food and consumer lessons, I have been able to enjoy myself while cooking, something I didn't expect as I never really cooked anything in the past. Now I have more initiative to cook or bake at home, and these lessons have definitely impacted me in a good way. I have learned not to easily give up and to have persistence, like when a dish doesn't turn out the way you want it to be, you can always try again and maybe perfect it the next time.

PT recipe
Ingredients
- 2 servings of spaghetti
- 200 grams swiss button mushrooms stalks trimmed and sliced thinly
- 10 cloves garlic peeled and sliced thinly
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 20 grams butter
- Parsley flakes
- 2 tbsp Salt
Instructions
- Bring a pot of water with 1 tbsp salt to a boil. Cook spaghetti according to the timing indicated on the packet, until al dente. Drain and set aside the pasta, reserving a small cup of the pasta water.
- Heat saucepan with 1 tbsp of olive oil. Add mushrooms, a pinch of salt. Stir fry or saute until cooked, about 3 minutes. Set aside cooked mushrooms on a plate.
- Heat 3 tbsp olive oil in the same pan, add garlic.
Saute the garlic until it starts to turn light golden brown.
- Turn off the stove. The garlic will continue cooking in the hot oil on its own for a few more seconds in the hot oil, until they turn a lovely golden brown. Melt butter in the garlic & oil mixture.
- Add cooked pasta, parsley flakes, cooked mushrooms, and salt.Toss to coat all the ingredients evenly, adding some reserved pasta water to help the ingredients bind together.

Task
My mum has requested that I help to prepare a simple nutritious dish (main course, accompaniment, dessert, snack, etc.) for both my younger sister and me. She has given me $10 to purchase the ingredients at the neighbourhood supermarket. Plan my lunch menu, taking into account the given budget. Explain my choice of ingredients used and the dish I have decided to cook.
